Nancy Pelosi admits she was never 'impressed' by Biden's 'political operation'
Pelosi also denied rumors that she was behind the operation of pressuring Biden to drop out, claiming that some lawmakers came to her with concerns about his electability, but she never reached out first.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi revealed Thursday that she'd "never been that impressed" with President Joe Biden's political operations, despite previously claiming he should be added to Mount Rushmore.
Pelosi claimed on Sunday that Biden was "such a consequential president of the United States," that he deserves to be on the historic landmark, alongside other great presidents like Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington.
The former speaker continued her praise for the president, who decided late last month to drop his bid for reelection after pressure from his party, telling the New Yorker that he has "been, really, a fantastic president," but said that she had serious concerns about whether he could win in November.
“I’ve never been that impressed with his political operation,” Pelosi told the magazine. “They won the White House. Bravo. But my concern was: this ain’t happening, and we have to make a decision for this to happen. The President has to make the decision for that to happen."
The comment comes after Pelosi told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” last month that Biden needed to make a decision about staying in the race, despite his repeated comments that he was not dropping out. The comment was seen as a major turning point in Biden's campaign.
Pelosi also denied rumors that she was behind the operation of pressuring Biden to drop out, claiming that some lawmakers came to her with concerns about his electability, but she never reached out first.
“I never called one person, but people were calling me saying that there was a challenge there. So there had to be a change in the leadership of the campaign, or what would come next," Pelosi said, adding that her goal was to keep former President Donald Trump out of the Oval Office.
Vice President Kamala Harris is now the Democratic Party's official nominee for president and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is her running mate.
