Progressive Congresswoman Pressley introduces resolution to strip Boebert of committee assignments

Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley is introducing a resolution to strip Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of her committee assignments for anti-Muslim comments she made about a fellow progressive Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, in an apparent attempt to get House Democrat leadership to take action against Boebert.

The resolution, which has been cosigned by four other progressives, will get a vote only if approved by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat.

Democratic leaders are reportedly wary of punishing GOP members each time they do something disagreeable. Boebert made the comments in a video made public over Thanksgiving weekend.

Additionally, Boebert's comments – which implied that Omar was a terrorist – did not threaten violence against the congresswoman, which was the reason given for stripping House Republicans Marjorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia, and Paul Gosar, of Arizona, of their committee assignments.

"Normalizing this bigotry not only endangers my life but the lives of all Muslims. Anti-Muslim bigotry has no place in Congress," Omar said about Boebert's comments, for which she has apologized.

This past weekend, Omar suggested that something was coming by way of retaliation again Boebert.

"I have had a conversation with the speaker, and I'm very confident that she will take decisive action next week," she told CNN's Jake Tapper.
