White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said during the Monday press briefing that President Biden's preference is to not eliminate or change the legislative filibuster in the U.S. Senate.

Psaki said that Biden's "preference is not to get rid of the filibuster."

Later during the briefing she said that the president's "preference is not to make changes to the filibuster rules" and noted that Biden "believes that with the current structure ... he can work with Democrats and Republicans to get work and business done."

Senate Democrats recently passed a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package by utilizing the budget reconciliation process that enabled the chamber to avoid the filibuster.
