AOC says she 'got under a certain little billionaire's skin,' referring to Elon Musk
Musk tweeted a screenshot of a $58 sweatshirt in Ocasio-Cortez's campaign store after the congresswoman criticized Musk's plan for an $8 per month premium Twitter service.
New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she "got under a certain little billionaire's skin," referring to Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
Musk tweeted a screenshot of a $58 sweatshirt in Ocasio-Cortez's campaign store after she criticized Musk's plan for an $8 per month premium Twitter service.
"So it turns out, we got under a certain little billionaire's skin because I made fun of his silly little plan to charge people for verification and priority placement. You pay $8 for people to see your tweets more and it's silly. It made him mad," she said in a video posted on her Instagram account.
"He decides to like, tweet a screenshot of our campaign store because our sweatshirts are like $50 to $58 as some kind of like gotcha that like other people pay money for goods, emphasis on real goods, in the world," she added.
In response to Ocasio-Cortez's criticism, Musk replied on Twitter: "Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8."
Ocasio-Cortez said in the video that "unlike Elon Musk, all the workers with our campaign — our campaign is unionized."
"We pay for full health care. We have other benefits, like child care stipends, proceeds go to community investments like tutoring kids in underserved communities, especially after COVID," Ocasio-Cortez said. "We do things for society, with the resources that are entrusted to us."
She also said that "billionaires pocket the change, and take that extra money to Wall Street."
Ocasio-Cortez concluded the video saying that it was "your annual daily minute reminder that indeed every billionaire is a policy failure in a country that does not guarantee health care and that has enormous amounts of poverty."
On Thursday, Musk responded with a laughing emoji to a meme that referenced Ocasio-Cortez as a Tesla owner and said, "AOC when she realizes she helped Elon buy Twitter."
