Sen. Mitt Romney was booed on stage Saturday at a Utah GOP meeting by state Republicans still angry over his vote to impeach former President Donald Trump.

But he was spared from being formally censured by the state party.

Romney was repeatedly interrupted by the rowdy crowd, some of whom hurled insults like “traitor” and “communist,” as he gave a speech.

"You can boo all you like," Romney responded. "I’ve been a Republican all of my life. My dad was the governor of Michigan and I was the Republican nominee for president in 2012."

Romney acknowledged his differences with Trump, and some stood to applaud and highlight the divide in the Republican Party.

"I’m a man who says what he means, and you know I was not a fan of our last president’s character issues," he said.
