Republican Sen. Josh Hawley says a group of "Antifa" protestors arrived at his D.C. home Monday night and threatened his wife and newborn daughter while he was in home state Missouri.

Hawley has drawn significant ire since announcing last week that he will object Wednesday to Congress' Electoral College certification of Democrat Joe Biden's as president.

The group, called ShutDownDC, defended the action, calling it gathering a "vigil," during which they lit candles and delivered a copy of the constitution to Hawley's residence.

"Tonight we dropped in at the home of @HawleyMO to encourage him to end his attack on democracy. Let's be clear, Hawley and his pals are doing real and serious damage to our democracy. And they're emboldening thugs like the #ProudBoys," tweeted the group.

"Now 'vigil' means screaming threats through bullhorns, vandalizing property, pounding on the doors of homes and terrorizing innocent people and children," Hawley wrote.

Videos of the group show a crowd with megaphones, chanting slogans in front of Hawley's home. Four members approach the steps of the house and stand by the door during the demonstration.

On Monday evening, Hawley responded to a question from Fox News' Bret Baier about the constitutionality of his decision to contest the Electoral College.

"My constituents expect me to have the right to have 'I have a problem' " regarding the possibility that election fraud occurred in November, Hawley said.
