The Democratic-led Senate blocked Sen. Bernie Sanders' effort to stop arms sales to Israel for the war in Gaza on Wednesday evening.

In total, 19 Democratic senators voted in favor of stopping the arms sales.

"Last night, 19 Senators voted to end illegal arms sales to Israel. We stood up to AIPAC, the Democratic Senate leadership, and the Biden administration," Sanders wrote on X on Thursday. "We must continue going forward to end illegal arms sales and hold Netanyahu accountable for his war crimes."

Prior to the Senate voting against Sanders' resolutions, the Vermont independent senator argued that "it is against the law for the U.S. to provide weapons to any country that is violating human rights or blocking U.S. humanitarian aid."
