Senate expected to hold final vote Friday night on Hegseth's Defense secretary nomination
Hegseth's final confirmation vote is expected to take place at 9 p.m. ET on Friday.
The Senate is expected to vote Friday evening on Pete Hegseth's appointment as secretary of Defense.
The vote for President Donald Trump's pick to run the Pentagon is expected to occurr at about 9 p.m.
Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski, Alaska, and Susan Collins, Maine, say they won't vote to confirm Hegseth, a military veteran and former Fox News host.
No Senate Democrats have said they will vote for him. However, Hegseth still appears to have enough votes in the GOP-controlled upper chamber to be confirmed.
Hegseth has face opposition for his appointment over concerns about whether he is qualified, excessive drinking, previous statements about women in the military and alleged alleged sexual misconduct.
Trump says Hegseth would bring a new perspective to the Pentagon and rebuild the “most powerful military in the world.”
