Senate Minority Leader McConnell calls for new Secret Service leadership
"The nation deserves answers and accountability," McConnell wrote on the social media platform, X.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said that there needs to be new leadership in the Secret Service following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
"Last week’s near-assassination of former President Trump was a grave attack on American democracy," McConnell wrote on the social media platform, X.
"The nation deserves answers and accountability," he continued. "New leadership at the Secret Service would be an important step in that direction."
Trump held a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday where a local man shot at him, grazing his right ear.
The Secret Service attempted to say that it was the fault of the local police, resulting in the nation's largest police group, Fraternal Order of Police, pushing back against the implication.
Multiple members of Congress have requested more information and documents from the Secret Service and other agencies regarding protocol and failures the day Trump was almost assassinated.
