Senate votes unanimously to confirm Rubio as secretary of state
No senators voted against the nomination. He is the first of Trump's nominees for the cabinet to be confirmed.
The Senate Monday voted unanimously to confirm Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as secretary of state.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee had earlier voted unanimously to recommend Rubio for the position, according to Fox News.
The floor vote came several hours after President Donald Trump was sworn in to office. Rubio has been a senator since 2011, and is a longtime member of the Senate’s Foreign Relations and Intelligence Committees.
He is the first of Trump's nominees for the cabinet to be confirmed.
