Johnson promises disasters relief for farmers in budget bill
"The Swamp is using farmers and victims of natural disasters as pawns to fund an over-bloated pet project filled disaster," Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., wrote on the social media platform, X.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said that the stopgap spending bill will provide disaster relief to farmers.
Johnson told reporters that he expects the text of the continuing resolution to be ready today, according to NBC News.
Lawmakers have said that the stopgap bill will give $10 billion in economic aid to farmers and $100 billion in disaster aid, Reuters reported.
Congress has until Dec. 20 to pass a continuing resolution in order to avert a government shutdown. If the continuing resolution passes, the government will remain open until March 14.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., said that the bill has to pass before the Dec. 20 deadline in order to make sure "we take care of disasters and our farmers here in America.”
Some Republicans are unhappy with the legislation, as many have spoken out against continuing resolutions and argue it's just wasting money.
"The Swamp is using farmers and victims of natural disasters as pawns to fund an over-bloated pet project filled disaster," Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., wrote on the social media platform, X. "I would much rather help farmers and victims of natural disasters than continue a budget I already voted against, funding foreign governments and foreign wars."
