Treasury secretary nominee Scott Bessent to meet Senate Republicans on Wednesday
Bessent is expected to meet with incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune and incoming Majority Whip John Barrasso on Wednesday.
Treasury secretary nominee Scott Bessent is expected to start making his rounds with Senate Republicans on Wednesday, as the Senate begins its reviews of President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet picks.
Bessent, a hedge fund manager who was tapped by Trump last month, comes from a Wall Street background. Bessent founded Key Square Capital Management, and worked as the chief investment officer at Soros Fund Management, which was started by Democratic megadonor George Soros. He also served as an economic policy advisor for Trump on his campaign trail.
Bessent is expected to meet with incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune and incoming Majority Whip John Barrasso on Wednesday, according to Punchbowl News. He has already met with the GOP senators from his home state of South Carolina, Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, per Politico.
The Cabinet hopeful's visit comes the same week that Trump's attorney general nominee Pam Bondi began making her rounds to help ensure a smooth confirmation process. Bondi met with incoming Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley and Graham on Monday. Neither candidate is expected to face much backlash from Republicans.
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who Trump appointed to head his new Department of Government Efficiency, are expected to meet Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Thursday.
