Ukrainian-American Rep. Spartz lashes out at Biden: 'blood' of Ukrainians 'will be on his hands'
The GOP Rep. made a please for better aid to be sent to her home country hours before Biden's first State of the Union address.
Hours ahead of President Joe Biden's inaugural State of the Union address, Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.), a Ukrainian-American member of the House, issued an emotionally driven plea for more impactful U.S. action in defense of Ukraine as Russia continues to attack.
During a House GOP leadership press conference, Spartz addressed the room to share details about what some of her family members are experiencing night after night in Ukraine.
"This is not a war. This is a genocide of the Ukrainian people by a crazy man," she said, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin "cannot get over" the Ukrainian people wanting to be free and "with the West."
As Spartz spoke, Ukraine, including its capital city, Kyiv, continued to sustain violent shelling attacks by the Russian army.
Spartz reprimanded the president, saying that "the blood of many millions of Ukrainians will be on his hands" if he fails to step up the military aid the U.S. is sending to Ukraine.
During the event, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy confirmed that talks are in motion to send additional lethal aid to Ukraine.
Identifying weak foreign policy from the administration as the preceding factor to Russia's bloody invasion, the Rep. said "Putin thinks the West is weak. He is embarrassing America. He knew we were embarrassed in Afghanistan, he wans to embarrass us again."
"These people will not surrender, but we need to give them a chance to survive," Spartz, through tears, said of the Ukrainians currently defending their nation.
