U.S. national debt racing toward $36 trillion

The U.S. national debt is racing toward a record-breaking $36 trillion, according to the latest figures posted by the U.S. Treasury Department.

The total outstanding public debt currently stands at $35.9 trillion.

The budget deficit for October, the first month of the 2025 fiscal year, was $225 billion.

The government borrowed $1.8 trillion in fiscal year 2024, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
