Utah Sen. Mike Lee to lead chamber's energy committee next year
New Mexico Sen. Martin Heinrich will become the leading Democrat on the committee, because current Chairman Joe Manchin is retiring.
Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee on Tuesday was announced as the incoming chairman of the Senate's Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
The committee has jurisdiction over the Departments of Energy and the Interior, and weighs legislation regarding public lands, nuclear energy and renewable energy, among other topics.
Lee, who is currently a regular member of the committee, will replace the committee's Ranking Member John Barasso, who was elected Senate GOP Whip last week.
New Mexico Sen. Martin Heinrich will become the leading Democrat on the committee, according to The Hill, because current Chairman Joe Manchin is retiring.
"Humbled and honored to take the gavel as the next Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee," Lee posted to X. "Time to get to work and unleash American energy."
