Vice President Harris to propose ban on corporate price gouging at campaign event

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to propose a federal ban on "corporate price-gouging" of food and groceries in a speech on Friday, according to her campaign.
“There’s a big difference between fair pricing in competitive markets, and excessive prices unrelated to the costs of doing business,” the Harris-Walz campaign said in a statement. “Americans can see that difference in their grocery bills.”
She plans to outline other parts of her economic agenda during the rally in the battleground state of North Carolina taking place on Friday.
On Thursday, Harris has a joint appearance scheduled with President Biden in Maryland, where they are expected to speak about the "progress they are making to lower costs for the American people," according to the White House.
In 2022, Democrats proposed a bill that would ban gas companies from price gouging, which critics argued could bring back the gas lines of the 1970s. It passed in the Democratic-controlled House at the time but failed to advance in the 50-50 Democratic-led Senate.
