Republicans launching counteroffensive against committee, which is ramping up hearings.
Republicans are now launching a counteroffensive to the Democrat-led Jan. 6 committee, which is ramping up hearings and recently secured a second Trump adviser's arrest for contempt.
"We're working very closely with President Trump and his team with Leader Kevin McCarthy, with Jim Jordan, and really all of the House Republicans will be pushing back in a rapid response fashion," Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) told Breibart News on Saturday.
"You will see us all over the airwaves, we will be setting the record straight," she added. "We will be telling the truth to the American people sharing the facts and also really pointing out how unprecedented and unconstitutional and illegitimate this committee is."
Just the News reported over the weekend that Republicans plan on spotlighting Democrats' failures to preemptively protect the Capitol, arguing those spearheading the Jan. 6 committee's investigation are effectively ignoring this issue.
The new GOP plan comes as Democrats plan to begin a new round of Jan. 6 panel hearings later this week, days after former Trump adviser Peter Navarro was indicted and arrested for contempt for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena.
Supporters of the investigation argue it's necessary to protect U.S. democracy following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Critics counter the committee is being used as a political weapon to target Republican Trump supporters without addressing key issues necessary to prevent another Capitol breach in the future.
