Democratic Justice Allison Riggs was sworn in for the North Carolina Supreme Court on Tuesday after the state elections board certified her 2024 election earlier in the day.

“We won this election more than six months ago, but it was fewer than seven days ago that this race finally ended,” Riggs, the incumbent justice, said at the courthouse in Raleigh during a swearing-in ceremony.

“That’s more than 180 days after Election Day, nearly $2 million spent, more than 68,000 voters, lawful votes put at risk, taxpayer time and resources wasted, immeasurable damage done to our democracy,” she also said.

The November 2024 election had been contested by state Appeals Court Judge Jefferson Griffin (R) since the initial results were released. Griffin challenged 60,000 ballots, arguing in court that they should have been rejected because ineligible voters fraudulently cast them.

Last week, a federal judge ordered the Carolina's State Board of Elections to certify the results of the contest. Griffin conceded defeat in the election the next day.

"It was such an honor to be sworn in again to serve as an Associate Justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court," Riggs posted on X on Tuesday. "I will continue to uphold the rule of law and defend the U.S. and state constitutions- without fear or favor."
