A Florida resident alleges in a recently filed lawsuit that a toilet at a Dunkin' Donuts shop exploded, covering him in human waste.

Plaintiff Paul Kerouac filed the suit Jan. 3 in Orange County Circuit Court against HZ O Donuts LLC, doing business as Dunkin' Donuts, according to legalnewsline.com.

Kerouac is suing for damages exceeding $50,000 for purported severe and long-term injuries from the incident at the donut shop in the city of Winter Park in 2022.

The complaint alleges that Dunkin' Donuts failed to maintain safe conditions for its customers and did not warn them about known hazards. According to Kerouac's account, the store's employees were aware of prior issues with the toilet that exploded.

"The explosion resulted in Defendant and the interior of the room itself, being covered with debris, including human feces and urine," the lawsuit states.

"Following the explosion of the toilet, Plaintiff emerged from the men's room and sought assistance from employees and managers of Defendant's business to clean himself, as he remained covered with human feces and urine after emerging from the men's' room at Defendant's business."

Several attempts Tuesday to reach the shop and HZ O Donuts LLC were unsuccessful.

As a result of the incident and its aftermath, Kerouac claims he suffered physical injuries and emotional distress requiring mental health care and counseling. He is seeking judgment for damages sustained and expected to be sustained.
