Eight people were indicted in Ohio on Thursday on murder and terrorism conspiracy charges related to an alleged planned drone and sniper attack on an Ultimate Fighting Championship match at the White House last month.

At least five people were initially arrested in the plot, followed by three others, but agents are working to identify as many as 16 other people who appear to be involved in the planning on encrypted chats communicating with the alleged plotters, officials said.

Officials said they believed the goal of the plot was to attack the site of the fight on the White House South Lawn with one or more explosive-laden drones, causing panicked fans to flee into areas where snipers would then shoot them.

The alleged plotters were from various states and federal officials announced criminal complaints against the plotters in states that include California, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Washington.

The new indictment charges all eight men in two separate conspiracies. The first is to provide material support to terrorists and the second is to commit murder on federal government territory and to murder a federal government official, according to the Associated Press.

The indictment also marks an effort by the government to streamline the case and tie the defendants together into a single prosecution.

Federal prosecutors allege that the group planned to murder President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, other federal officials, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Elon Musk, among others.

Conspiring to provide material support to terrorists is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and conspiring to commit murder carries a sentence of up to life in prison.
