Federal judge allows Trump buyout offer for government employees to continue
District Court Judge George O'Toole ruled that the unions who were suing to stop the offer did not have the standing to bring the challenge, and that he lacked the jurisdiction to stop the offer from proceeding.
A federal judge in Massachusetts on Wednesday ruled that the Trump administration's federal buyout offer to millions of government employees can continue, and lifted a court order that paused the program's deadline.
The judge last week had blocked President Donald Trump's plan to offer federal buyouts to government employees in exchange for them to resign. Trump’s Office of Personnel Management (OPM) sent the offer to millions of employees last month, which allowed employees to retain benefits and be paid through September if they agree to opt out.
District Court Judge George O'Toole ruled that the unions who were suing to stop the offer did not have the standing to bring the challenge, and that he lacked the jurisdiction to stop the offer from proceeding, CBS News reported.
The offer went to all federal employees except military personnel, those who work in national security and immigration, and postal workers.
