Federal judge allows Jan. 6 defendant to attend Trump inauguration
Judge Tanya Chutkan authorized the Jan. 6 defendant, Eric Peterson, to be able to travel more freely in Kansas City, Missouri where he's from.
A federal judge will allow a Missouri man who pleaded guilty to entering the U.S. capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot to move freely from his hometown while on bond, which will also him to attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration next month.
The permission was granted Thursday to trespasser Eric Peterson by U.S. District Court for D.C. Judge Tanya Chutkan.
Peterson's sentencing will be Jan. 27 and he also has to pay $500 in restitution to the Architect of the Capitol, CNN reports.
Peterson's lawyer, Michael Bullotta. seemed convinced that Trump would likely give Peterson a pardon, as the president-elect has said some of the Jan. 6 rioters would be pardoned.
Bullotta said that Peterson's request to go to D.C. was "even more appropriate in light of the incoming Trump administration’s confirmations that President Trump will fully pardon those in Mr. Peterson’s position on his first day in office.”
As of now it is not known which Jan. 6 rioters will or will not be pardoned when Trump takes office.
