Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., is facing a lawsuit from a block of Florida voters, challenging his authority to call the legislature into special session to redraw the state's congressional maps.

The governor's push comes ahead of an expected ruling from the Supreme Court on the Voting Rights Act, which could permit southern states to dramatically redraw the state maps in their favor. It also follows the Supreme Court declining to address California's own redraw.

The suit itself takes aim specifically at the special session and the governor's authority to bind the legislature to such an initiative. The pair of voters specifically asked the state Supreme Court to determine that DeSantis's order isn't binding, The Hill reported.

The GOP-driven redraw is expected to result in a change in district maps that would create several new Republican-leaning seats that could give the party a boost to its midterms chances.
