Former Rep. George Santos likely to plead guilty on campaign fraud charges: report
This is an addition to another indictment regarding charges of money laundering and wire fraud.
Former Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., will likely plead guilty to charges involving campaign fraud in a few days, sources told NBC News.
Santos is facing being indicted on 23 counts in the Eastern District of New York. Some of the charges include identity theft and giving false statements to the Federal Election Commission.
This is a superseding indictment, an addition to a previous 13-count indictment regarding charges of money laundering and wire fraud.
Santos is expected to plead guilty on Monday, Aug. 19.
The House Ethics Committee investigation concluded that Santos misused campaign funds for personal expenses and "engaged in knowing and willful violations of the Ethics in Government Act as it relates to his Financial Disclosure (FD) Statements filed with the House."
He originally pleaded "not guilty" to all the charges.
