Former Trump aide Peter Navarro reports to prison

Navarro warned that his jail sentence would "have a chilling effect on every American."

Former Trump aide Peter Navarro on Tuesday reported to a federal prison in Miami to start his four-month sentence for his congressional contempt conviction after he defied a subpoena from the now-dissolved House select committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot.

Navarro, 74, reported to prison after the Supreme Court on Monday rejected his emergency request to allow him to stay free as he appeals the conviction.

"I’m afraid of only one thing," Navarro told reporters during a press conference outside of the prison. "I’m afraid for my country, because this — what they are doing — will have a chilling effect on every American, regardless of their party."
