Gallego's divorce records unsealed, clarifying episode previously shrouded in mystery

An Arizona court Thursday unsealed court records from Arizona Democratic Senate nominee Ruben Gallego's 2016 divorce, providing details to the closely-held agreement.

The records show Gallego, now an Arizona House member, and then-wife Kate Gallego, now the mayor of Phoenix, mediated an agreement for joint custody of their young son, though much of the information about this agreement has been redacted for privacy reasons. 

Gallego and his ex-wife fought efforts by the Washington Free Beacon to have the records unsealed, citing a public interest in the content. The Arizona Supreme Court on  Wednesday denied their appeal to block the release of the documents.

“The judge who actually is overseeing this has said this is one of the most boring, boring divorce procedures," Gallego recently told local radio station KTAR-FM. "The reason Kate and I have tried to keep as much confidential is not for us; it’s for our son, Michael."

To be sure, the details of the agreement did not fulfill expectations of blockbuster revelations by the campaign for Arizona GOP Senate nominee Kari Lake and others. 

Gallego has alleged Lake had a role in trying to unseal the records, which her campaign denies.
