Santos campaign fundraiser pleads guilty to a federal wire fraud charge
Sam Miele was charged with four counts of wire fraud and identity theft.
A campaign fundraiser for embattled Republican Rep. George Santos pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a federal wire fraud charge.
The fundraiser, Sam Miele, pleaded to charges related to soliciting contributions from potential contributors by impersonating former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy aide in phone calls and emails, according to CNN.
He was originally charged in August with four counts of wire fraud and identity theft.
Prosecutors said that Miele sought political contributions while pretending to be a "high ranking aide to a member of the House with leadership responsibilities."
Miele is expected to be sentenced in April, according to ABC News.
