GOP Rep. Gill files articles of impeachment against judge in deportations case
The allegations include abuse of power, and assert that he "did knowingly and willfully use his judicial position to advance political gain while interfering with the President's constitutional prerogatives and enforcement of the rule of law."
GOP Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, on Tuesday filed articles of impeachment against Judge James Boasberg, who recently issued an order blocking the Trump administration from using the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport members of Tren de Aragua.
The allegations include abuse of power, and assert that he "did knowingly and willfully use his judicial position to advance political gain while interfering with the President's constitutional prerogatives and enforcement of the rule of law."
The move comes as Trump himself called for Boasberg to face impeachment, saying "his judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!! WE DON’T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY."
Chief Justice John Roberts, on the same day, appeared to reject impeachment, saying ""For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose," according to Newsweek.
