Missouri AG Bailey says home state is not happy with New York over 'lawfare' against Trump
"I'm proud to announce that lawsuit against the state of New York to fight back against lawfare," Bailey said.
Missouri GOP Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced he would be filing a lawsuit against the state of New York for using 'lawfare' against former President Donald Trump.
"I'm proud to announce that lawsuit against the state of New York to fight back against lawfare," Bailey said on the Friday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.
On Thursday, Bailey said on the social media platform, X, that the state of New York is directly attacking the democratic process through the use of "unconstitutional lawfare" against former President Donald Trump.
"Missouri has a big problem with New York right now," he said. "We are taking them to court and we're gonna fight to put a stop to this."
Last month, Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree for his reimbursement of a $130,000 payment his then-lawyer Michael Cohen made to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
Trump had argued that this lawsuit and lawsuits on other states were part of a political witch hunt, which other GOP politicians have echoed.
"We know there's a relationship between the DOJ and the state level prosecutions," Bailey said. "This illicit witch hunt of President Trump starts at the top, and it extends down to New York and to Georgia."
He said that the New York prosecution against Trump would deny Missourians the right to hear and have access to a political candidate.
