Judge denies release of CIA employee who allegedly leaked classified info on Israel and Iran

A federal judge on Wednesday denied the release of a CIA employee charged with violating the Espionage Act by publicly disclosing top secret intelligence about Israel’s plans to attack Iran after the regime's missile strikes in October.

A magistrate judge had ruled last week that Asif Rahman, 34, was eligible for release pending trial on two counts of violating the law as a result of allegedly retaining classified information and transferring it to an unauthorized individual.

U.S. District Judge Patricia Giles overturned that decision on Wednesday in federal court in Alexandria, Va.

“I take the government’s point that this is a kinetic situation. It’s a volatile situation … and that creates a different danger,” she said, according to The Washington Post.
