Magistrate Judge Ryon M. McCabe on Monday ordered that alleged would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh be held without bail as he faces trial.
Routh was arrested in mid-September in connection with an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The incident saw a Secret Service agent engage with an armed suspect after noticing the barrel of an AK-47 protruding from the bushes where he was hiding. Trump was golfing at his Palm Beach, Fla., course at the time and was roughly 400-500 yards away.
The order to keep Routh detained followed a Monday hearing in U.S. District Court during which prosecutors confirmed they planned to bring additional charges against Routh, CNBC Reported.
Routh currently faces federal gun charges for allegedly possessing a firearm while a felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Also on Monday, prosecutors unveiled a note Routh wrote months ahead of the alleged assassination attempt in September.
“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you," the letter read. "I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job."
