A federal judge on Friday rejected President Trump's effort to move his New York hush-money case into federal court and have his 2024 conviction dismissed.

U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein ruled that Trump's arguments for removing the case were “neither new nor legally sufficient,” rejecting his claim that presidential immunity protected the conduct underlying the conviction, according to Reuters. 

Trump was convicted in May 2024 on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 payment made to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. 

The payment was intended to keep Daniels from publicly discussing her allegation that she had a sexual encounter with Trump, which he has denied.
