Jury awards E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million over Trump's 2019 statements

A New York jury on Friday awarded Trump accuser E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million in damages over defamatory statements the former president made in 2019 after she came forward with rape allegations against him

The figure included $18.3 million in compensatory damages and $65 million in punitive damages, CNN reported.

While Trump was president, Carroll came forward with claims that Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s, a claim Trump denied at the time and still disputes. She subsequently sued him for defamation, though that suit was long delayed over the question of whether Trump enjoyed presidential immunity due to making the comments while in office. U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan rejected that argument last year.

Earlier this week, Trump reiterated his denials of her story, saying in a Truth Social video that "I don't even know who this woman is... This is another scam. It's a political witchhunt."

In a separate suit, she secured a jury determination in May of last year that he had sexually abused and defamed her, with a jury awarding her nearly $5 million, including $3 million for defamatory statements he made after leaving office.
