A Florida jury on Tuesday convicted Ryan Routh of an attempted assassination on President Trump last year, and he is facing life imprisonment.

The jurors took about two hours to find Routh, 59, guilty of five federal charges of attempted assassination, assault on a federal officer, and gun crimes after a two-week trial in Fort Pierce, Fla., court, the New York Post reported.

Routh attempted to stab himself in the neck after the verdict was read, but was tackled by U.S. Marshals, according to News Nation

“Today’s guilty verdict against would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh illustrates the Department of Justice’s commitment to punishing those who engage in political violence,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a post on X. “This attempted assassination was not only an attack on our President, but an affront to our very nation itself.”

Routh, who presented his own defense, is expected to be sentenced on Dec. 18.
