Justice Department attorneys asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on Monday to dismiss its cases against a string of law firms that the Trump administration sued last year over their practicing decisions.

Several courts struck down the cases last year, which were lodged against law firms like WilmerHale, Jenner & Block and Perkins Coie, over what the administration perceived as "political lawfare." The Trump administration sought to limit the security clearances and access to government buildings for employees at targeted firms.

The Justice Department told the appeals court that it was no longer interested in pursuing the cases and asked for the appeals to be dismissed, according to the New York Times

The decision comes after nine other law firms made deals with the Trump administration last year, including Paul Weiss, in order to avoid a legal battle over the executive orders.

The law firm agreed not to deny representation to clients based on political views, not to use any Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies, and to donate the equivalent of $40 million in pro bono legal services to support the Trump administration’s initiatives.
