The continued trials of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn recently took another turn when the Justice Department revealed that William Barr has assigned an outside prosecutor to review Flynn’s case.

Jeff Jensen, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, has been tapped for the job Feb. 14. Jensen will work closely with Brandon Van Grack, the lead prosecutor of the Flynn case. Flynn and his attorneys sought a formal withdrawal of his guilty plea last month shortly after the Justice Department recommended a six month sentence for not cooperating fully or accepting responsibility for his actions.

Sentencing for Flynn has been delayed multiple times over the past two years. Flynn was reportedly forced to plead guilty after months of financial exhaustion.

The Justice Department is wrapping up a tumultuous week, during which they overruled the recommended sentence of federal prosecutors for GOP operative Roger Stone.
