Justice Department releases transcript of videos made by alleged Brown University shooter
Neves Valente allegedly confessed in the videos, which were done in Portuguese, that he had been planning the Brown University shooting for a long time and that the Rhode Island school was his intended target.
Federal prosecutors on Tuesday released the transcripts of videos that were allegedly made by suspected Brown University shooter Claudio Manuel Neves Valente before the shooting last month.
Neves Valente allegedly confessed in the videos, which were made in Portuguese, that he had been planning the Brown University shooting for a long time and that the Rhode Island school was his intended target.
The man, who was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Dec. 18, has also been tied to the fatal shooting of an MIT professor just days after the Brown University shooting. Two students were killed at Brown and nine others were wounded.
"Neves Valente showed no remorse during the recordings," prosecutors said. "On the contrary, he exposed his true nature when he blamed innocent, unarmed children for their deaths at his hand and grumbled about a self-inflicted injury he suffered when he shot the MIT professor at close range.
"Our investigation into the motives behind Neves Valente’s heinous acts will continue," they continued. "Based on the evidence seized and analyzed to date, authorities do not believe there are any ongoing public safety threats associated with the shootings."
The transcript of the videos, which were translated into english, can be found here.
