Justice Ginsburg hospitalized for possible infection
Ginsberg is 87 years old
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized Tuesday for a possible infection. The 87-year-old Ginsberg has recently had a series of health-related setbacks.
"Justice Ginsburg was admitted to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland early this morning for treatment of a possible infection," a Supreme Court press release explains.
"She was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. last night after experiencing fever and chills. She underwent an endoscopic procedure at Johns Hopkins this afternoon to clean out a bile duct stent that was placed last August. The Justice is resting comfortably and will stay in the hospital for a few days to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment," the press release added.
The Supreme Court Justice has had a history of medical issues, including earlier this year when the court heard oral arguments via phone because of the coronavirus crisis and Ginsburg took part from the hospital where she was recuperating after treatment for a "benign gallbladder infection" related to a gallstone.
According to CNN she missed oral arguments in January 2019 as she recuperated after a procedure conducted the prior month to extract a couple of cancerous nodules from her lung. The news outlet noted that in 2018 she suffered several fractured ribs from a fall and in August 2019 she underwent pancreatic cancer treatment.
Ginsburg, widely perceived to be a liberal judge, was appointed to the high court by Democratic President Clinton and has served more than two decades since she was confirmed in 1993.
She had previously served on the Unites States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and as a law professor at Rutgers University School of Law as well as at Columbia Law School, according to her biography on the Supreme Court website.
