Maduro faces more charges including alleged torture, according to new, unsealed federal indictment

Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, in U.S. detention since his capture by the U.S. military in January, now faces additional charges including alleged torture, according to a federal indictment unsealed Thursday.
Maduro had already been charged with participating in a conspiracy to send cocaine into the U.S. The new indictment also includes charges of alleged human rights abuses during his reign as president of the oil-rich South American country, according to the Associated Press.
Maduro and wife Cilia Flores, were taken from their Caracas home in a middle-of-the-night raid. They have pleaded not guilty in the criminal case first brought against them and co-conspirators years ago, the wire service also reports.
