The manhunt continued Sunday for a person of interest in connection with a shooting the night before on a stretch of highway in rural Kentucky.

Law enforcement officers are searching a rugged and hilly area of southeastern Kentucky, according to the Associated Press.

Nine vehicles were hit with shots, and five people were injured in the incident that occurred on Interstate 75 at about 6 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities said they consider Joseph A. Couch, 32, a person of interest and that they had recovered an SUV belonging to him, the wire service also reports.

Officers have also found a semi-automatic weapon near the scene of the shooting that they believe was used in the attack, but as of late Saturday they had yet to link it to Couch, said a spokesperson for the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
