Paul Pelosi attacker David DePape was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Friday, following his conviction for assault and attempted kidnapping of a federal official.

Prosecutors had sought 40 years, the BBC reported.

The October 2022 incident saw DePape attack Pelosi, now 84, with a hammer at the latter's San Francisco home. He had been in search of Paul's wife, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Paul sustained a skull fracture as well as injuries to arm.

The Department of Homeland Security, in November of 2022, confirmed that DePape had been in the United States illegally following allegations that had come from Canada and had overstayed his visa.

He has pleaded not guilty to an array of state charges.

In January of 2023, police body camera footage of the incident became public.
