Supreme Court declines to hear case about constitutional rights for fetuses

The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to hear a case about whether fetuses are entitled to constitutional rights.

Catholics for Life and the two Rhode Island women filed an appeal to the high court to challenge a lower court ruling that found fetuses did not have the proper legal authority to challenge a state law codifying the right to an abortion.

The two women, who were pregnant at the time of the appeal filing and have since given birth, sued on behalf of their unborn children, Reuters reported.

Attorneys for the Catholic group and the women argued the case "presents the opportunity for this court to meet that inevitable question head on" by deciding whether fetuses have due process and equal protection rights.
