The Supreme Court declined on Monday to hear Grammy award-winning recording artist R. Kelly's appeal of his 2022 child sex conviction in Chicago.

The reasoning for the justices declining the case was not disclosed, which is standard practice for the high court.

Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison are he was found guilty of three charges involving producing child sexual abuse images as well as three charges for enticing minors for sex. The charges were related to allegations that dated back to the 1990s.

According to the Associated Press, Kelly's legal team argued that a "shorter statute of limitations on child sex crime prosecutions should have applied."
