Trump to send National Guard, federal law enforcement to Wisconsin as violent protests turn deadly
'We will NOT stand for looting, arson, violence, and lawlessness on American streets' – President Donald Trump
President Trump said Wednesday that he’ll send the National Guard and federal agents to Wisconsin to help control the violent protests in the city of Kenosha following the fatal police shooting this past weekend of a black male.
The decision follows three nights of protests – marked by vandalism and arson and deadly violence – including three overnight shootings in which two people were killed. A 17-year-old Illinois resident was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with one of the shootings.
Trump said Democratic Gov. Tony Evers, who has already activated state National Guard, has agree to accept the federal assistance.
“We will NOT stand for looting, arson, violence, and lawlessness on American streets,” Trump tweeted. “My team just got off the phone with Governor Evers who agreed to accept federal assistance. (Portland should do the same!)”
The president also tweeted: “TODAY, I will be sending federal law enforcement and the National Guard to Kenosha, WI to restore LAW and ORDER!”
The man shot Sunday night by police has been identified as 29-year-old Jacob Blake. His attorneys say Blake is now partially paralyzed.
