President Biden on Wednesday asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a "significant de-escalation" in the fight between his country and Palestinians.

Biden made the request in a call to Netanyahu, according to a White House statement on their conversation.

The leaders spoke on the 10th day of fighting between Israel and Hamas militant leaders who back the Palestinians – amid international pressure for a truce or cease fire, with the death toll now over 200.

Biden also is asking Netanyahu to move toward "the path to a cease-fire," according to the Associated Press.

Hamas has reportedly launched over 3,700 rockets into Israel from the Gaza Strip.
