Biden to Brussels next week to meet with allied European leaders over Russia invasion of Ukraine

President Biden will travel next week to Brussels for an in-person summit with allied European leaders to discuss Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the White House said Tuesday.

Biden will meet with NATO and European leaders March 24. He will also attend a scheduled European Council summit, in  efforts to impose sanctions and further humanitarian efforts, according to the Associated Press.

"His goal is to meet in person face to face with his European counterparts and talk about assess, where we are at this point in the conflict in the invasion," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said. "We've been incredibly aligned to date.That doesn’t happen by accident. The president is a big believer in face-to-face diplomacy. So it's an opportunity to do exactly that."

With the invasion now in its third week, Ukraine continues to press for supporting nations to supply jets or help create a "no-fly zone" to thwart Russia's deadly and destructive missile strikes. 

Vice President Kamala Harris last week visit Eastern European NATO countries of Poland and Romania to address with  leaders the growing refugee crisis as millions of Ukrainians flee the attack and pledge the Biden administration's commitment to the North Atlantic Treat Organization, or NATO, allies, the wire service also reports.
