Secretary of State Marco Rubio shrugged off the latest speculation this week that he could be considering a 2028 presidential run, stating that he was solely focused on his two current jobs.

Rubio has long been floated as a possible successor to President Donald Trump, alongside Vice President JD Vance, but has not indicated that he himself is considering that possibility. Vance has also not confirmed a future White House bid.

"I don't know what the future holds, but I have no plans at this time," Rubio said during a trip to Colombia. "I'm not a candidate for anything right now. And I’m 100% focused on my job, and I have to be because I have two jobs.”

Rubio serves as Trump's Secretary of State and interim National Security Advisor. He also previously served as acting archivist of the United States and acting administrator of the United States Agency for International Development.

The speculation comes after Rubio appeared to fare better against possible Democratic presidential candidates than Vance in a survey last month. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was the only Democrat to fare better than both Republicans. 

Rubio previously ran for president in 2016 but ultimately suspended his campaign to endorse Trump after he lost his home state of Florida. He served in Congress until the second Trump administration.
