NATO on Thursday formally accepted Sweden as transatlantic military alliance's 32nd member.

Sweden's efforts to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization comes amid concerns about increased Russian aggression in Europe following the Communist-led country's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and ends decades of post-World War II neutrality, according to the Associated Press.

The induction ceremony was led by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“This is a historic moment for Sweden, said Blinkin, the wire service also reports. It’s historic for alliance. Blinken said. “Our NATO alliance is now stronger, larger than it’s ever been.”
