An American diplomat was found dead in Yangon, Myanmar's largest city, according to the U.S. State Department.
Police are treating the diplomat's death as a homicide and have detained a Thai woman in connection with the investigation, members of the diplomatic community in Yangon said, the Associated Press reported.
The State Department declined to comment further on the matter, "out of respect for the privacy of the family and loved ones."
The man was found dead about two weeks ago at the Sakura Residence & Hotel, according to sources. The establishment is popular with diplomats, business people and international travelers. It's located a mile away from the American Embassy.
