Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced Thursday that currently half of all its field offices across the country have body cameras for its agents and the rest are expected to get them within 60 days, according to the Department of Homeland Security. 

This follows recent calls for all agents to wear them after several fatal shootings by ICE officers have occurred where there was no body-cam footage to be viewed. While these calls have gone on for years, pressure has increased with the fatal shooting of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis earlier this year, and two more killed this month in Texas and Maine. 

Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, said this week the agency is "moving as quickly as possible" and that "as soon as they had funding they bought them," according to Axios. 

It was announced in March by then-ICE director Todd Lyons that about 3,000 out of the 13,000 agents had body cameras then, with 6,000 more on the way, according to the outlet. 

"ICE will ensure each arrest team has an individual wearing a body camera. Ensuring all of our ICE law enforcement officers have body cameras nationwide is a top priority for DHS," an agency spokesperson said.
